Robby and Lady - The Blonde
Although my career focus is on Character Animation, I do also love Modelling. These 2 main characters I wanted to create myself so that I could develop my Organic Modelling skills, and also i had such a clear vision for their personality that I already had an attachment and desire to bring them to life. This was great experience in creating production ready assets from start to finish as i needed to ensure the wireframe was fit for Rigging, and also the UV unwrapping was fit for texturing.
I wanted to balance on the border of realism and cartoon, without dipping into an uncanny valley. This took a lot of renditions, asking for feedback, and trial/error, but eventually I reached a point where I felt a real attachment to the characters, and I knew I was on the right track.
I have textured the Lady character with a lightly wooden tone to emphasise the Wooden element of her "Broom" persona. This also aided in pulling away from becoming too realistic.
The Robby character i wanted to keep very soft so I textured him with a painterly tone so that he has a very "hand-made" feel to him.
